The fix was auto trades: a user sets a trigger price, and the trade executes on its own when the market reaches it, no need to be watching. Rather than build a full-featured trading platform, I prioritised auto trades for buy, sell and trade later, plus recurring buys and price alerts, aimed at beginner to intermediate traders rather than the power users other exchanges were designing for.

Supporting multiple live orders at once meant the interface needed open, warning and error states just to track what was pending, filled or gone wrong, on top of the trade logic itself. Low fidelity wireframes went into testing first, then mobile came first for the high fidelity build, since most trading behaviour happened on the go rather than at a desk.
